The IPL Record Book: 287, 175* and a 14-Year-Old Centurion
The highest totals, the fastest hundreds, the best bowling and the lowest collapse. These are the numbers every IPL season is measured against.
Note: records are correct to the end of the 2025 season.
Batting records
| Record | Holder | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Most runs | Virat Kohli | 8,000+ runs, all for RCB. The first batter to reach 8,000, in 2024 |
| Most runs in a season | Virat Kohli | 973 runs in 2016, including four hundreds |
| Most hundreds | Virat Kohli | 8 |
| Highest individual score | Chris Gayle | 175* off 66 balls, RCB vs Pune Warriors, 2013 |
| Fastest hundred | Chris Gayle | 30 balls, in that same innings |

| Most sixes | Chris Gayle | 357 |
Gayle's 175 not out came on 23 April 2013 in Bengaluru. He hit 17 sixes and reached his hundred in 30 balls, and more than a decade on, nobody has come close to either record. Kohli's records are about longevity instead. He has played every season for one franchise and has been the league's most reliable scorer for more than a decade.
The 14-year-old centurion
On 28 April 2025 in Jaipur, Rajasthan Royals' Vaibhav Suryavanshi, aged 14, hit a 35-ball hundred against Gujarat Titans. It was the second-fastest century in IPL history and the fastest by an Indian, and it made him the youngest centurion the league, and men's T20 cricket, has seen. He had been bought at the auction only a few months earlier, aged 13.
A 14-year-old hit the second-fastest hundred in IPL history. Only Chris Gayle has got there quicker.

Records that might never fall
- Gayle's 175* and 30-ball hundred. Scoring has never been faster, yet both have stood since 2013.
- Kohli's 973 runs in a season. It would take a batter averaging more than 60 across 16 or more innings, while scoring quickly, to beat it.
- Joseph's 6 for 12. On debut, against a strong batting line-up. The perfect night for a bowler.
Why so many batting records since 2023? The Impact Player rule gives teams an extra batter. Here's how it works.
